SPLIT
LEATHER

The split, and the full grain, are one of the qualitative classifications of the hides.

Leather processing often involves the need to reduce its thickness. This practice, called splitting, divides the skin into two parts: the upper part, is the full grain more precius than the lower part  that is the crust on the flash side.

Due to  its compactness, split is generally used for the automotive, but thanks to different types of tanning studied over the years, they can also become suitable for the creation of footwear and leather goods (bags, belts, shoes …).

The most common types of leather the crusts come from are bovine ones.
